Favorite glögg recipe

I love Christmas - and in Denmark, we have many Christmas traditions. We prepare advent calendar gifts for the ones we love. We enjoy Christmas food, Christmas sweets and mulled wine (gløgg) for special occasions.



There are many ways to make gløgg. Here you get my favorite recipe for gløgg.
I will serve this hot drink for the fantastic Monkey Team, along with homemade waffles when we are having our Christmas 'hygge'.

FAVORITE HOT GLØGG

1 liter of good apple juice

1 liter of sweet or semi-dry white wine

A little Calvados (apple brandy)

3 pcs. of whole cinnamon

15 pcs. of cloves

5 pcs. star anise

15 pcs. whole cardamom pods

50 g. flaked blanched almonds

1-2 dl light raisins

Thin slices of lime, ginger and orange



Let the almonds and raisins soak in a little Calvados overnight.



Put apple juice, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and cardamom in a pot and heat it up. It should not boil. Take it off the heat and let it rest at least 1 hour, preferably until the next day.

Heat it up again, pour through a sieve, without boiling it and add the wine, almonds and raisins, and warm up again and season with Calvados and add sugar depending on how sweet you want it.
Serve the gløgg very hot with, and add slices of lime, ginger and orange to the glass or cup.
