At Monkeyglasses, we take eye exams seriously - always with a friendly smile.

With an OCT scan (optical coherence tomography), we create a digital 3D image of the inside of your eye. With this tool, we can detect even the smallest changes to your vision, long before they cause symptoms.

Early detection of eye diseases is the key to healthy eyes - especially when it comes to diseases like glaucoma. With the OCT exam, we can spot signs that would be invisible during a traditional eye exam.

How the OCT-scan is done 

An OCT scan only takes a few seconds, is completely non-contact and 100% painless. The advanced technical equipment uses light to create images of the back layer of the eye - similar to an ultrasound scan.

Where a regular image would show us the surface of your eye, the 3D scan gives us a detailed insight into the layers of the retina. This provides our opticians with the most detailed information to care for your vision.

Is an OCT eye scan relevant for you?

Yes! - especially if you want to care for your vision long term.

Even for those who have no vision problems and don’t currently need glasses, we recommend adding an OCT scan when you book an eye test with an eye health check. By keeping your images on file, we can compare results over time and detect any changes early on.

If glaucoma or diabetes is present in your immediate family, it is even more relevant to choose the scan.

Please note that If you have regular check-ups with an ophthalmologist (at least every two years), they might already perform OCT-scans. Check with your eye doctor in case of doubt.
