Upcycled glasses - Readers and sunglasses
From surplus stock and plastic bottles into new glasses
You’re not the only one who wants to make an even bigger difference for the environment. We do too. That’s why, in this category, we offer surplus stock of handmade eyewear frames as well as solid frames made from injection-molded recycled plastic.
The series is called Upcycled Glasses, because all frames are made from recycled plastic sourced from food containers and plastic bottles.
The Upcycled Glasses collection includes sunglasses and screen/reading glasses with blue light filters, with or without prescription, as well as sports eyewear with the option to add your own prescription.

Plastic is valuable - from waste to glasses
Monkeyglasses was founded because we ourselves missed an eyewear brand that took responsibility—for fair production conditions, materials we could truly stand behind, and quality glasses with a strong, timeless design.
Our collections are created with an equal focus on quality, aesthetics, and integrity. Every single pair of glasses is designed here in our shop in Copenhagen, where we meet people who want to do good, see well—and look good.
You’ve saved nature from 20 grams of plastic waste
With our Upcycled Glasses series, we take responsibility and work with integrity throughout the entire process. We reduce the need for new raw materials and give plastic waste a new life in your eyewear.
When you choose one of our frames, you help make a difference. Today, approximately 20 grams of plastic waste are used in a single pair of glasses. It may not sound like much—but when more people choose solutions based on responsibility and care, it helps move the entire industry in a better direction.
Recycled & certified plastic for glass frames
The ‘Upcycled Glasses’ line is made from recycled CPE30 material, which comes from water bottles and the hard plastic of food containers. No other plastic is added, so it is therefore upcycled plastic material, which is remelted into new quality eyeglass frames.
The eyeglass frames are therefore made from Recycled GRS 4.0-certified plastic.

Eyewear with responsibility – for multiple needs
The first collection in the Upcycled Glasses series is based on a timeless eyewear design. Shapes that suit most people and are made to last season after season. The collection covers multiple needs—whether you are looking for reading glasses, sunglasses, sports eyewear, or screen glasses without prescription—making it easy to make a responsible choice.
Lenses with and without prescription – all with blue light filter
All lenses in the Upcycled Glasses series feature a built-in Blue Light filter that reduces harmful blue light from digital screens. Read more about 'Blue light glasses' here
You can choose lenses with a fixed reading strength from 0.0 / +0.5 up to +4.0, for example for reading glasses, or lenses without prescription. The collection is also available as sunglasses with polarized lenses (without prescription), as well as selected models suitable as sports eyewear.
Fair pricing – responsible solutions
When you purchase a pair of Monkeyglasses from the Upcycled Glasses series, your glasses are delivered in a soft microfiber pouch made from recycled plastic. The pouch protects your glasses and also works as a cleaning cloth—whether they are reading glasses, sunglasses, or sports eyewear.
You can also add our popular and durable case made from recycled paper. The case folds flat when not in use and easily fits into most pockets and bags.
Monkeyglasses are glasses with responsibility
We put great importance into how we produce our glasses and the partners we produce them with. We require fair working conditions and fair salaries for anyone involved in our supply chain. And as you might already know, we collect used prescription glasses for the volunteer opticians in Syn for Sagen - and most naturally we support our monkeyfriends at Save the Orangutan.
